Barry
came to Fivehead in 1977 with Margaret and sons Peter and Richard. He
worked from the VAT Office in Taunton until 1999. Since then he has been
occupied with Employment and Pharmaceutical Tribunals and the family
smallholding. He chaired the Village Hall Committee in the early
1980s. The most public amongst his many interests are Chief
Engineer of the Isle Abbotts Railway and Fivehead Tree Warden. He
volunteered to join the steering group and collate the survey results
because a Village Plan appears to offer an opportunity for everyone in
the village to raise their collective voice in the ear of the
Authorities.

was born at West Monkton Taunton, at the foot of the Quantock Hills.
Apart from a few years, whilst in the services of the Nat West Bank, he
has lived in
Somerset
all his life. He was educated at
West
Monkton
Primary School
and
Taunton
School
.
Married to Sandra, a school receptionist,
they have two children Rebecca & Richard. Rebecca is studying to be
a vet at the
Royal
Veterinary
College
,
University
of
London
, whilst Richard is studying for his ‘A’ levels at
Richard
Huish
College
,
Taunton
.
After leaving school Malcolm worked for Nat West for seven years
before deciding on a career in farming. Although born on a farm he
gained further experience by working on other
Somerset
farms until in 1985, when,
qualified in Business Studies (Banking) and Farm Management he took over
New House Farm, Fivehead.
Over the last 21 years the farm has expanded substantially and now
includes arable, a commercial suckler herd, producing quality local
beef, and two environmental schemes, Countryside Stewardship & Entry
Level Stewardship.
A keen countryman Malcolm believes that we are privileged to live
and raise children in a village environment and is keen to see a
practical, levelheaded, approach to village affairs.
Malcolm has been a member of Fivehead
Parish Council since 1999 and its chair since 2000.
